According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korea Display Industry Association released the "Vehicle display Value Chain Analysis Report" on August 2, data show that the global automotive display market is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 7.8%, from $8.86 billion last year to $12.63 billion in 2027.
By type, the market share of organic light-emitting diodes (OLeds) for vehicles is expected to rise from 2.8% last year to 17.2% in 2027. Liquid crystal displays (LCDS), which accounted for 97.2 percent of the automotive display market last year, are expected to gradually decline.
South Korea's automotive OLED market share is 93%, and China's is 7%.
As South Korean companies are reducing the proportion of LCDS and focusing on OLeds, the Display Association predicts that their market dominance in the high-end segment will continue.
In terms of sales, the proportion of OLED in central control displays is expected to grow from 0.6% in 2020 to 8.0% this year.
In addition, with the development of autonomous driving technology, the infotainment function of the car is increasing, and the on-board display is gradually becoming larger and higher resolution. In terms of center displays, the association predicts that shipments of 10-inch or larger panels will increase from 47.49 million units last year to 53.8 million units this year, an increase of 13.3 percent.
